As well as its name, which comes from Greek mythology, more precisely from the figure of a centaur, representative of wisdom and art, the quartet seeks the deepest knowledge of string quartet formation and the art of its presentation to the public.

Only formed in 2020, the Quiron Quartet already has performances in countries such as Portugal, France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland and Italy and at festivals such as Casa del Quartetto and Crans-Montana Classics, having worked on masterclasses with names like Eberhard Feltz, Mathieu Herzog, Clive Brown, William Coleman, Guy Danel, Joseph Kluson, Szymon Krzeszowiek, Van Kuijk Quartet. Jerusalem Quartet, Danel Quartet and Bennewitz Quartet.

In 2023 the quartet has completed a Postgraduate degree in String Quartet at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the guidance of Eric Robberecht, is connected to the Chamber Music For Europe in Belgium, and it also integrates the Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie (NSKA) in The Netherlands, where they are regularly and intensively mentored by the Danel Quartet.

Recently the quartet was awarded a special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary piece, at the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition in Katowice, Poland.

Edgar Gomes

Violin

Graduated from Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen Magnum cum Laude as a scholarship holder from Gulbenkian Foundation. During his formative years he has played with reputed orchestras such as Casa da Musica Symphony Orchestra, La Monnaie Opera, and held the Academy position of the Antwerpen Symphony Orchestra during the 2018/2019 season. As a soloist, he was a laureate of several competitions in Portugal and received masterclasses with great musicians such as Midori Goto, Stephan Picard, Gordon Nicolic, Pavel Vernikov and Giulla Stuller, among others. 

Since 2021 he is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium - Casco Phil, and his chamber music experience highlights the foundation of the sFourzato string quartet - 2nd prize winners of the Prémio Jovens Músicos (PT) and with concerts in both Portugal and Brazil, as well as the Silakbo Ensemble, which has played several concerts and gave masterclasses in both Bulgaria, Belgium and the Netherlands, with the support of the Council of Arts of Canada. Edgar plays a 1860 François Caussin violin.

José Miguel Freitas

Viola

Graduated from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen and the Royal College of Music in London, José-Miguel is a former scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian foundation (Portugal) and a Houston Family Scholar supported by a Lucy Ann Jones Scholarship (UK). He was laureated in both Vasco Barbosa and Paços Premium national competitions (Portugal), and received masterclasses with great violists such as Andriy Viytovich, Nathan Braude, Antonello Farrulli, Isabel Charrisius, Maxim Rysanov, Máté Szücs, and Igor Suliga, among others.

He held the Academy position of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra’s 19/20 season and currently maintains regular activity with the orchestra, he is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium - Casco Phil since 2021, and collaborates regularly with Brussels Philharmonic. The highlights of his chamber music experience are the debut with Fidelio Trio (UK), the RARO Ensemble (Belgium),  Orquestra XXI’s Soloists (Portugal), and with Marc Danel at the Tivoli Vredenburg (Netherlands). José plays a 2017 Stephan Jarosz viola.

Maria Nabeiro

Cello

Graduated from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag in 2021, Maria has participated in several festivals, highlighting the Gergiev Festival, the NJO Muziekzomer Gelderland, the International Kamermuziek Festival Schiermonnikoog, the Aurora Chamber Music Festival and Festival a Poitou. Received masterclasses from great musicians such as Natalia Gutman, Jakob Koranyi, Giovanni Sollima, Dmitri Ferschtman, and François Guy and Erberhard Feltz.

Maria was a member of the Nationaal Jeugd Orkest and the European Union Youth Orchestra. In 2020/2021 held the Academy position of both the ASKO|Schönberg Ensemble and the New European Ensemble, and currently also collaborates with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. Maria plays a 1920 Giullio Deganni cello, a loan provided by the National Music Instruments Foundation (NMF).

Ricardo Vieira

Violin

Graduated from the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco, the Haute École de Musique de Genève, and the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, Ricardo was laureated at the Capela National Competition (Portugal) and at the Cidade do Fundão International Competition (Portugal). He has received masterclasses with great musicians such as Stephan Picard, Andrey Baranov, Olivier Charlier, Miguel da Silva and Gábor Takács-Nagy, among others.

He is a former Mediterranean Youth Orchestra concertmaster, and in 2019 became a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium - Casco Phil. Currently, Ricardo regularly collaborates with the Gulbenkian Orchestra (PT), the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, the Belgian National Orchestra, and the Orquestra XXI (PT) and his chamber music highlights are the regular activity of his Trio EnSuite (Portugal) and Quatuor Salève (Switzerland), as well as the Aurora Chamber Music Festival (Sweden). Ricardo plays a 1850 François Caussin violin.
